Originally an agricultural community, Bentwood began to be developed as a residential community in the early 1990’s. The area remains well known for such products as cherries, peaches and corn, but is growing rapidly as an up and coming residential community. Recent ventures include a number of major retail stores and restaurants. Other developments include a brand new Civic Center, begun in 2009.
The Brentwood community is served by the Brentwood Union School District, Knightsen School District and the Liberty Union High School District. There is also a satellite facility of Los Madenos College.
Fitness is a high priority in the area, boosted by 58 parks and miles of jogging trails.
Other neighborhoods and cities which lie nearby include Encino to the north, Bel-Air to the northeast, Westwood to the east, West Los Angeles to the southeast, Santa Monica to the south, and Pacific Palisades to the west.
